
He was born in Macon, GA, on October 6, 1948, to Harry and Nanette Findlay. He proudly served his country in the USMC in Vietnam where he received the Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Commendation with 1 bronze star, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Gallantry Cross Color, Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation Civil Actions Color, 1st Class, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
After leaving the military, Lt. Findlay was a long-time employee of the Department of Corrections in GA, where he worked as a training instructor. Mr. Findlay was the author of "The History of the Georgia Prison System" and was published in the Georgia Historical Quarterly and was published in various magazines and books, including "Weird Georgia". After retiring, he moved to San Antonio with his wife.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Kathy.
Survivors include his wife, Darleen Findlay; a son, Mark Robertson; a daughter, Vicky Lewis; 9 grandchildren, Hailey Robertson, William Joyner, Jr., Michael Joyner, Susannah Joyner, Carolyn Bailey, Mary Bailey, William Bailey, Lindsay Joyner, and Peyton Joyner; a great-grandson, Atticus Herring; and a brother, Gary Findlay.
