LaWana Arnold DeWees

LaWana DeWees (née Arnold) went to be with the Lord on January 20th, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas while surrounded by family & friends. She was born on October 19th, 1955, in Ganado, Texas to Barbara & Jack Arnold.

LaWana attended Kermit schools from elementary through high school. She participated in many school activities such as band, drum major, and twirling. Her favorite, however, was volleyball. Her mother, Barbara, recalls a time when LaWana was unable to play volleyball in middle school due to illness. Once she recovered, LaWana’s drive & tenacity led to her making varsity her sophomore year despite being told that she would be incapable of playing. Her mother believes it’s that period of her life that gave her the drive to accomplish & conquer anything she put her mind to. After graduating from Kermit High School in 1974 she attended Southwest Texas State University. She married the love of her life Robert “Bob” DeWees on December 16th, 1978, in Midland, Texas. She worked for Bernie & Carol Bowden in the convenience store business for many years & became a part of their family. She also was a highly successful realtor who enjoyed helping families find their forever homes in Colorado. LaWana was blessed with a gentle spirit, & she was a tenacious champion of those she loved. The most important thing to LaWana was loving & caring for her family & she treasured spending time with them whenever possible. Her nieces & nephews can recount many memories spent at Aunt Daa & Uncle Bob’s house playing ping pong, around the world & dominoes, as well as the many summers that they spent going on camping trips. LaWana was also the epitome of a loyal friend & a source of wise, compassionate guidance to many. To be “adopted” by LaWana was to experience true, steadfast friendship like no other. Our Lawana loved big and lived big, no wasted time. We will miss her sweet voice & laugh, but her memory will forever inspire us to love one another better.

LaWana leaves behind her husband, Bob DeWees of Rio Frio, Texas; mother, Barbara Arnold of Kermit, Texas; brother, Kevin Arnold (Jayme) Arnold of Kermit; beloved nieces and nephews, Dabney, Daegen & Kelsea, Ingmar, Ty, Angie, Bryan, Michaele, Mark & Gigi. She especially found joy in being a loving Aunt to her grandnieces and grandnephews. She was preceded in death by her father Jack Arnold of Kermit.
