Larry was born on May 15, 1930, in Freestone County, Texas, to Jack and Florence (Norris) Patton. He graduated from Sundown High School and went on to study at Tarleton State University and Texas Tech University, where he earned a degree in Agriculture.
On December 27, 1953, Larry married the love of his life, Dorothy Joyce Patton, in Plainview, Texas. Their devoted union lasted 59 years, until Joyce’s passing in October 2013.
Larry proudly served his country as a commissioned officer in the United States Air Force for 28 years, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. His final assignment brought him to San Antonio in 1968, where he served until his retirement in 1982.
Following his military career, Larry turned his passion for welding into a business – founding “Larry’s Enterprises”. He and Joyce traveled to numerous craft fairs selling dinner bells, wind chimes, and custom branding irons. Larry took pride in working with customers to create custom iron work and was always up for a new challenge.
Larry enjoyed cooking, finding treasures at auctions and estate sales, fishing and hunting, more for the cooking and fellowship than the sport. He enjoyed swapping stories and offering a helping hand or words of wisdom to those in need.
Larry worked side by side with his wife Joyce, sharing their passion for philanthropic work supporting the Soldiers Center and Wounded Warrior programs.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joyce; his parents, Jack and Florence; his brothers, Jimmy and B.J. Patton; and his sisters, Vivian Lawrence and Martha Sue Pickett.
Larry is survived by his son, Doug, wife Sharon, and grandson Ryan; and his daughter, Lazette O’Berg, husband Jeff, and grandson Parker.
A graveside service will be held on August 4th, 10:30 a.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wounded Warriors Family Support at https://www.uso.org/donate/sanantonio
