Lejeune was born in Caddo, Oklahoma on December 17, 1921 to Mordica and Sadie Golden. She is preceded in death by her four siblings, John Powell, Genevieve Parker, Joyce Clark and Helen O’neal. She was raised in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Her family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas when she was a young teenager where she attended and graduated from Corpus Christi High School. It was in Corpus Christi that she met and married the love of her life, Carlton Camillas Whitworth.
At the outbreak of World War II, Carlton joined the Army Air Corp and served as a pilot in the European Theater. After the war, they settled in Corpus Christi where Carlton resumed working for Central Power and Light Company. In 1954 he was transferred to Laredo where he served as District Manager before his retirement in 1983. Carlton passed away in Laredo in 2010 after seventy years of marriage to his beloved wife Lejeune. After his death, Lejeune moved to San Antonio where she had an independent and active life at Franklin Park Sonterra, a senior living community.
Lejeune was an artist well known for her paintings, particularly her watercolor paintings that adorn the homes of friends and family. She was an active member of the Laredo Art League for many years. She was also a long-time member of the Laredo Women’s City Club which she joined shortly after moving to Laredo. She was a life master bridge player often competing in bridge tournaments around the State. She enjoyed every imaginable kind of board games, particularly Rummikub a game in which she regularly trounced her family members. She lived life to the fullest, loved happy hour and dressing to the nines. She made people laugh until the very end.
