

Leon Charles Clerico was born February 23, 1921 in Topeka, KS. He went to be with the Lord on February 25, 2016 just two days after his 95th birthday. He attended and graduated from Topeka Catholic High School in 1939. He served our country during World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was discharged from the Coast Guard in 1946 and the U.S. Navy in 1951. He later began a career in Civil Service that spanned almost thirty years. He retired from Civil Service in 1973.
He was preceded in death by his father, Charles, and his mother, Catherine. Also passing on before him were three brothers, Richard, Vincent and Kenneth and one sister, Delores. Mr. Clerico’s first wife (and the mother of his two children) Ruth, who passed away in 1997. His second wife, Genevieve, who passed away 2009.
Mr. Clerico is survived by one brother, LeRoy Clerico of Wichita, Kansas. He is also survived by his two children, Christine C. Clerico and David Clerico (Denise). Other survivors include his granddaughter, Heather Grasser (Danny) and his great granddaughter, Cheyenne, all of Centerpoint, Texas. He is also survived by numerous step-children.
Mr. Clerico’s long life was marked by his love for his family and friends. He had a great appreciation for all kinds of music as evidenced by his collection of thousands of records. In his earlier years, he enjoyed fishing with friends. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He cherished his lifelong Catholic religion, and was a member of both St. Pius X Catholic Church and St. Thomas More Catholic Church, both in San Antonio.
Visitation will be 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 3, 2016 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest, San Antonio, TX 78218. Interment will follow at the Holy Cross Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made the American Legion, 1948 Austin Hwy, San Antonio, TX 78218.
He will be dearly missed by family, friends and neighbors alike.
