

Leonard R. Sayers of San Antonio, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on June 17, 2006, at the age of 91. He was born in Wichita, Kansas on February 8, 1915, to Alfred Thomas and Lelia Farnsworth Sayers. He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Louise Parker Sayers.
He attended Texas Military Institute and graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in San Antonio in 1933. He attended Texas A& M University where he served in the Corps of Cadets and was Captain of the National Championship Rifle Team. He was a Charter member and twice President of the San Antonio Petroleum Association and Founding Member of the American Association of Petroleum Landmen. He served on the Vestry as Clerk of St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
Leonard's greatest devotion was to his wife, two children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is survived by his daughter, Lynne Sayers Hennessey and her husband Peter J. Hennessey III of San Antonio, and his son, Clinton P. Sayers and his wife Martha Wade Sayers of Austin; grandsons Peter J. Hennessey IV and his wife, Claire; Clinton S. Hennessey and his wife, Trish of San Antonio; Clinton P. Sayers II, of Dallas, William Leonard Sayers and Markham Thomas Sayers of Austin; granddaughters, Elizabeth Hennessey Blackbird and her husband, David, Laura Sayers Patrick and her husband, Ryan and Margaret Louise Sayers, of Austin, Emily Thayer Hennessey of San Antonio; great granddaughter Westen Emily Blackbird of Austin. He is also survived by his sister, Glennis Clements of Kealakekua, Hawaii.
There will be a private graveside service where Leonard's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Eugene Ames, Jr., Richard Brady and Louis Haring.
