Leonel Dr. Fuentes

Dr. Leonel Fuentes, age 83 entered into rest with his family at his side on Thursday, October 4, 2012 in San Antonio. He was born in Piedras Negras, Mexico on March 15, 1929 to parents, Manuel and Luz Fuentes. Leonel graduated from Benito Juarez Prepatorio School in 1948. He graduated from Nuevo Leon Medical School in Monterrey, Mexico in 1952. Leonel was a dedicated and caring physician for 38 years. Not only did Leonel serve as Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Audie Murphy V.A. Hospital from 1973-1990, he helped in its grand opening. Leonel was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and mentor to many. In spite of all his successes and many contributions to the medical field, his proudest achievements were his family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan loving golf, tennis, the Spurs, and watching football and baseball in his spare time. Although Leonel's accomplishments were many in the field of medicine, he was a man of humility and did not call attention to himself. He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Sylvia Dorothy Fuentes; sisters, Elsa Fuentes, Gloria Amezcua; and his parents. Leonel is survived by his children, Joseph Fuentes and fiance, Matilda Valdez, Dr. Leonel M. Fuentes and wife, Renita, Deborah Fuentes, Dr. Daniel Fuentes and wife, Debra; five grandchildren, Michael, Matthew, Lee, Leslie, and Kara; two great-grandchildren, Celeste and Michael, Jr., as well as a third great-grandchild expected to arrive later this month; and sisters, Elida Garza, and Diana Carter. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave., San Antonio, TX 78212.
