Leroy Goss passed away September 3, 2013. Born on May 11, 1918, in Belmont, Texas, Leroy was predeceased by his wife, Louise and a son, Tom Goss. Leroy and Louise shared a loving marriage of 71 years before Louise died just 48 days before Leroy's death.
Leroy is survived by two sons, Bill Goss and Bob Goss (Paula); a daughter-in-law, Roxy Goss; 8 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
He was a devoted husband, caring father and uncle, doting grandfather and great-grandfather and a loyal friend to many. Leroy set an example of for all as a kind, Christian man with a great sense of humor. He was active in his sons's lives in sports and scouting. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing with Louise, especially at the Texas Gulf Coast.
As a young man, Leroy's love of country led him to serve as an officer and pilot in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. His successful business career was in food sales and distribution where he applied the qualities of integrity and hard work he learned growing up on a farm and ranch in Gonzales County. After retiring, Leroy returned to ranching and enjoyed caring for his land and cattle for many years.
Leroy and Louise were members of the University United Methodist Church and loved their "Church family." They held many leadership positions and among their most meaningful was their involvement in the Senior Adult Ministry where they developed several programs. Two years ago they were very proud and honored to receive the Legacy Award from the Youth Department at the Church.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 at Porter Loring Mortuary North. A reception will follow the services at the church on Tuesday.
