Lillian Wenzel Blaschke, affectionately known to family and friends as Gangie, passed peacefully from this earth on January 21, 2021.

Born in her parents’ home on May 6, 1923, Lillian was the second of six children born to Ida and Ottmar Wenzel. After meeting the love of her life, Anton Blaschke, at Luxelo Hall, they were happily married for 56 years before his death in 1999. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She dedicated her life to helping others.

Lillian was a faithful servant of God and a founding member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She volunteered her time and talents to others and was always there for anyone in need. She made her home a warm and welcoming place for her family to gather, create traditions and make lifelong memories. Lillian was not only an incredible cook, gardener and seamstress, she was also a master of home repairs! She was as comfortable rolling french seams on church linens as herding cattle and mending fences at the family ranch. Lillian taught us all how to live our lives with a grateful heart. During her 97 years, she gracefully made her way through life, starting with humble German beginnings on her family farm to keeping up with our current technology-driven world.

She is survived by her five children: Marylin Blaschke, Dianna Zimmerman, Elaine (Gary) Jones, LaVerne (Jack) Dysart, Dennis (Carol) Blaschke; ten grandchildren: Brenda (Mark) Frazier, Karen (Brian) Brady, Deborah (Randy) Riggs, Stephanie (Kevin) Nemec, Jennifer (Jeff) Easley, Jamie (Todd) McClanahan, Janelle (Bryan) Urioste, Julie (Todd) Drake, Brian (Emilee) Blaschke, Justin (Ryann) Blaschke; 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her siblings Julitta, Eugene, Werner, Erna and Jerome.

A visitation for family and friends will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home at 1701 Austin Highway on Tuesday, January 26, from 1-6 pm. A private rosary and funeral service will be held to celebrate her life. On Wednesday, January 27, at 11:30 am, the funeral mass live-stream link can be accessed on Facebook (@SPXSA) or YouTube (St. Pius X Rebel News Network). In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3303 Urban Crest Drive, San Antonio, TX, 78209. Condolences may be offered at www.sunsetfuneralhomesa.com.

Where do you begin to comment on a 97 year lifetime of loving and sharing. I knew LaVerne and Dennis from our high school days and met Mrs. B (as I called her) in 1969, 50 years but still only half of an incredible life. I would always stop by after visiting my Family in the area. Whether it had been two weeks or two months, she always greeted me with a smile and offer of something special from her kitchen. At my age, there aren't many around who knew so many of my Family. She was able to surprise me with some connection or incident going back to my Garndparents. In the last two years, there was a closer bond and I looked forward to our weekly visits. She could remember details about everything, what a mind AND spirit. After she was forced to slow down, her thoughts were always of her Family, Church and ranch. I feel like I know so many of you, you were Blessed to have had her in your life for so many years. We had spoken about how we both would like to end our time, what a Blessing to her that you were there with her. My most sincere condolences to you all, we have lost a real sweetie!

Many thanks to the priests and grandchildren who shared their memories during the rosary and Mass for Lillian. I want to share the words of Lillian's second-cousin who is only two and a half years old. When she saw the picture of Lillian ( in the beautiful long dress) sitting on Aunt Ida's porch, she exclaimed in great jubilation: "OH, THAT'S A SPECIAL ANGEL!" I agree: "Out of the mouths of babes..." (Psalm 8:3)

When Dennis & I were around 10, I stayed over at his house one day. Dennis could always come up with something to do to have fun. But today Dennis for some reason, he asked his Mom to come out to the front yard to look at something.

So she stopped what she was doing and with her apron on, she briskly walked out to obliged him. After being out front for a short time looking at ?? (Hey it was 55 years ago), Dennis then turned and ran ahead back in through the front door and locked Aunt Lilian and me out. Aunt Lilian was trying to get in, but Dennis didn’t let her in. She said insistently “Dennis open this door-I mean it! I have a million things to do today. I don’t have time for this.”

As I stood on the front porch, I was thinking he’s going to be in big trouble I might need to get some distance and go out to the yard. But, from the inside of the door Dennis responded with his lips close to the back of the door: “You have a million and one things to do-first you have to get through the door.” And I looked at her and I saw that her always-busy world stopped for a brief second and she broke into that big Aunt Lilian smile. It's a memory that's always stayed with me because she was for ever doing and almost always doing for others.

I gotta say I was relieved. Cuz Dennis had an awesome room with the coolest stuff-it was a blast and I wanted to stay awhile.

Auf Wiedersehen Aunt Lilian
