After graduating from Dilley High School, Lillie earned her Bachelor of Arts degree Magna Cum Laude from Southwestern University. While working at Kelly Air Force Base, she met the love of her life Jack Jordan Ammann Jr. They were married a year later. They were married for forty-five years. They adopted their son, William Erik Ammann when he was eleven. Lillie was a dedicated mother as well as an entrepreneur.
Lillie began her professional life with the modest yet vibrant Lillie's Lovely Little Gardens, selling terrariums from the comfort of her home. Her ambition soon saw her opening a retail store, Plants and Pottery. After several years she closed her retail store and Lillie's Interior Landscapes came to life, transforming many businesses, restaurants, offices, malls, and private homes with beautiful plants. Her business acumen and love for greenery earned Lillie's Interior Landscapes a place as one of the top three landscape companies in San Antonio.
Even after a major stroke tested her strength, Lillie remained unshaken. She sold her business and followed her second passion, writing. She authored several books and started an editing business. Lillie especially enjoyed helping self-publishing authors navigate the publishing maze and described herself as a “book midwife.” Even though she had medical issues and lived in a retirement community for the last five years of her life, she continued her editing business and was in the process of writing another book at the time of her passing.
Lillie was a Christian her entire life and was active in her church, All Saints Anglican Church for over three decades.
Lillie's dedication to her Church, her faith, her community, and her family is a testament to her character. Let us remember her as she was: a child of God, creator of beauty, and loving mother, sister, aunt and friend.
Lillie was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Ann Nicholson; husband, Jack Ammann; brother, James Matthew (Matt) Nicholson; sister, Patricia Louise (Patsy) Wood; and niece, Mildred (Millie) McKenzie.
