Praise God for the life of this kind wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend! Surely she is rejoicing now with the Savior and her loved ones in heaven.
Lois was born in northern Oklahoma, and grew up on a wheat and cattle farm with her parents and younger brother. She nurtured the pets and took theatre class in high school. The community was strong, and her extended family lived nearby. Sadly, Lois’ father died suddenly when she was 19 and working at the phone company.
Several months later, she met an Air Force pilot in training at the town movie theatre. He flew over her farmhouse while they were dating. John, (a Maryland farm boy), and Lois were married half a year after meeting. Within 7 years John made 3 career changes, they lived in 3 different states, 5 different homes, and welcomed a baby girl and boy to the family. Lois adapted to and met the challenges well. She was most happy to live back in Oklahoma or even Texas to be within a half a day’s drive of her childhood home.
Lois and John had wonderful friends they met through churches, work, schools, and neighborhoods in Lubbock, College Station, and San Antonio/Spring Branch/Boerne. They enjoyed playing Bridge, camping, and traveling a bit. Lois was a wonderful cook and made gatherings special. She took a Bible Study Fellowship class, a watercolor art class, and was in a book club. Being a grandmother and great grandmother were highlights for her. She and John were a very devoted team through family health challenges. They were married for almost 68 years. Even as she lost abilities due to Alzheimer’s, she would smile and voice appreciation as long as she could - it was evident Jesus was carrying her.
We can’t thank Lois’ care teams enough: John Seibert, Visiting Angels, Menger Springs, Home Instead, Southern Care Assisted Living, and Alamo and Companion Hospice. We so appreciate all the friends who’ve encouraged us – sharing faith, joys, prayers, and care!
Lois is survived by her daughter, Karen (Ronnie) Oefinger; grandchildren, Lindsey (Kevin) Blanchard, Ryan (Lindsey Lee) Oefinger, Lauren Oefinger; brother, Dale (Nancy) Hayes; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Seibert; grandchildren, Victoria Loren Seibert Whitton, Jennifer (Brandon) Keller, Alysha (Landon) Nickeson, and Christie Kinsel; 10 great-grandchildren; nephews; and niece. She is predeceased by her parents Lowell and Leota, husband John, son Mark, granddaughter Krisanie and grandson Kevin.
