Loraine Catherine LeComte Dowling, age 93, was called home on Tuesday, February 22, 2022. The youngest of nine children, she was born in San Antonio on March 12, 1928 to Charles Joseph and Trinidad “Teenie” (Navarro) LeComte. She was proud of her heritage as a great-great granddaughter of Jose Antonio Navarro, a Texas Statesman and one of the native Texas signers of the Texas Declaration of Independence. A graduate of St. Mary’s High School in 1945, she enjoyed roller skating with her sister “Izzie” and spending time with her older sister “Bea” in Abilene, Texas. After high school she went to work at Brook Army Hospital Center and the Motor Pool at Ft. Sam Houston, then for the US Postal Service, for a total of 28 years of service to the United States Government. She met her husband while working in the motor pool, and they married in 1953. As a military wife, she traveled overseas with her husband and growing family to places such as Athens, Greece; Ankara, Turkey; Virginia; Arizona; Alabama; and multiple cities in Texas before finally returning home to San Antonio to stay. Her later years were spent going to casinos and spending time with her sister, “Izzie,” and brother-in-law, Ross Coker, talking about her family, looking at old photo albums, playing cards and dominoes. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 30 years, Msgt. Richard Vernon N. Dowling; son, Ronald Dowling; brothers: Daniel, Harold and Charles LeComte; and sisters: Bernadine Fredeck, Stella Uhl, Isabell Coker, Sr Agnes Celine and Sr Mary Viola. She is survived by her sons: Richard Lee Dowling of Lubbock Tx, Thomas Charles (Grace) Dowling, and Kenneth (Lisa) Dowling. Also by her grandchildren: Thomas (Jennifer), Joshua (Heather), Colin (Ashley), Nathan, Jeremy, Kyra, Carissa, and Camille, as well as great-grandchildren: Caitlyn, Caleb, Gavin and Finnegan, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She will be missed by every one of us.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, onTuesday, March 29, 2022 at Porter Loring Mortuary North.
