He attended the University of Mississippi, DeKalb College in Atlanta, and Harris County Community College. Ed proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1972. He retired from Valero Energy in February of 2010. Ed was President of the San Antonio Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association, a board member of the Alamo Area DARE, member of San Antonio Police Volunteers in Policing, member of the training Advisory Board for the San Antonio Police Department, and the Chief's Advisory Board.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie Morrison Berner; parents, Rex and Margaret (Williams) Berner; sister, Pamela Berner Knorr and husband Ron; and numerous other loving family members.
