

Louis Charles Spreen passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. He was born on January 10, 1939, in San Antonio to his parents, Lillie Marie (Rau) and William Henry Spreen.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Mary “Tootsie” Spreen, and his brother, William “Willie” Spreen. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Mary Ann Knippa Spreen; his sons, Louis Scott Spreen (Michele) and Kent Brian Spreen (Sara), several nieces and nephews and Mary Ann’s loving family.
As a graduate of Brackenridge High School, Louis supported and organized activities for the graduating classes from the late 1940s to the late 1950s. He was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and Hope Lutheran Church, serving as chair of numerous committees and church organizations over the years. He touched many young members’ lives through Luther League and Boy Scouts of America. His love of football began early in life; he played football for the San Antonio Toros football organization then became a member of the South Texas Football Officials Organization for several decades.

A memorial service honoring Louis’ life will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 502 E Nueva St, San Antonio, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Organ Fund at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
