Lucille is preceded in death by her loving husband Bill Mahone; brothers Ronald and Jack Morgan; and parents Calvin and Della Morgan. Lucille is survived by daughter Patricia Taylor of San Antonio, Texas; son Tom Mahone of Kentwood, MI; grandchildren Scott and Keith Taylor, Will Mahone, Corina Larger, Eddie Mahone, and Jennifer Thompson; and 12 great grandchildren.
Lucille was born and raised by her parents on a small farm in Dawson, AL. She graduated from Geraldine H.S. and went to business school where she developed her secretarial skills. At the age of 20, in 1943 she married Bill Mahone, and they were together until his death in 1973. Lucille went to work for the Atlanta Public school system in the late 1960’s and worked her way up to be the executive secretary to the superintendent Dr. Norman. She retired in 1988 and took her first big trip on a cruise to Hawaii with her daughter Pat. She discovered a love for travel and went on many trips to Alaska, Canada and Europe. She also made annual trips to visit her children and grandchildren in Texas and Michigan. Lucille was a remarkably strong and independent woman who survived her husband with 50 more years of life. She had many good friends.
Lucille lived alone and took care of herself, cooking her own meals until the age of 99, when she moved to San Antonio, Texas where her daughter resides. She lived at Franklin Park Assisted Living facility and made new friends, participating in activities there- like Bingo and Dominoes. As her health failed her, she continued to fight to be independent. A memorial service will be held in her honor at a later date.
