

Luz Gonzalez Tamez, 90 a retired Congressional Office Director, died peacefully Monday morning, January 13, 2003 at St. Francis Nursing Home. Luz was born August 13, 1912 in San Antonio to Leonides and Genoveva Gonzalez.
In 1942 she married Daniel D. Tamez, who recently retired as owner for over 40 years of American Piano Co. in San Antonio.
For three decades she ran the office of her late brother, U.S. Representative Henry B. Gonzalez. Prior to that, she also worked for her brother when he served in the Texas Senate.
Luz was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and special friend to many. For those who knew her, she was energetic, hardworking, caring and fun-loving. A graduate of both the Old San Antonio Business School and the San Antonio Music College. Mrs. Tamez was an accomplished pianist who brought great joy to those who heard her play.
She will be greatly missed but we are comforted to know that she is in the arms of her Heavenly Father in Whom she had unquestionable faith and trust.
Survivors: husband, Daniel D. Tamez, Sr.; son, Dr. Daniel D. Tamez, Jr. and his wife Annalisa; daughters, Mary Lou Johnson and her husband Ken of Round Rock, Irma Thomas and her husband, Jim of Trophy Club and Josie Culpepper and her husband Gene of Houston; grandchildren, Alyssa, Danny and Jennifer Tamez, John Daniel J.D. and Sarah Thomas; brother Dr. Joaquin Gonzalez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
