Lyle James Crawford Jr, loving husband, and father was called home at the young age of 42 on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. He was a bright spark in this world and will be deeply missed by many. The common threads we see weaving through Lyles life are service, helping others, giving of himself, being a faithful friend, a loving son, faithful husband and devoted father. Lyle touched countless lives, making a difference to many, as he knew no stranger. On this final day, he embarked on one last journey. He climbed Jacobs ladder, entered the gates of heaven, and waits for us there.
He was born to Nancy and Lyle Crawford Sr on March 16, 1979. After graduating from Southside High School in 1997, Lyle proudly joined the United States Navy. He served a 4-year tour (1998-2002) on the flight deck of the USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) as an Aviation Boatsman Mate. After an injury to his knee, he served as Postal Clerk Petty Officer, 3rd Class. At the end of his Naval tour, Lyle worked at Maverick Land Surveying (2002-2007) and quickly promoted to Party Chief. Lyle also served as Treasurer for the Quality Bass Club and loved volunteering at the annual "CAST for Kids Foundation" event.
Lyle pursued his goal to become a Firefighter for the San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD), graduating Class 07 Bravo. He promoted to Engineer in July 2019 and willingly volunteered and graduated Paramedic Class #55 in December 2020. His honorable duty of 15 years with SAFD was served mostly in the southside district.
Lyle enjoyed competitive bass fishing and deer hunting, where he has received many trophy awards. He was a proud Texan and loved the Texas Aggies. He enjoyed family gatherings, hosting parties and barbequing. However, his greatest accomplishment was being a supportive, loving, and devoted husband and father. His family was his most valued treasure in this world and Lyle was blessed with an amazing wife and three beautiful children. Lyle lived life large, with the ability to find the fun in most every situation.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Crawford Sr. and stepmother, Judy Crawford; stepfather, David Ross; and his grandparents. Lyle is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 16 years, Jennifer Crawford, and his adored children, Kimber, Layna and Colt; beloved mother, Nancy Ross, and brother, Wade Crawford.
In Navy parlance be it said "fair winds and following seas" in Firefighter vernacular let it be said "rest easy Brother, we have the watch and well take it from here."
"His Master said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master." Matthew 25:23
There will be a celebration of life viewing for family and friends from 1:00pm - 7:00pm, Friday March 4th at Porter Loring Mortuary downtown.
