She was born on December 9, 1918, in Avery, TX, to Thomas Jefferson Pope and Johnnie Rebecca Bradley Pope, and as a member of a military family she traveled the world.
Mamie was known as "Mama Pope" to her family, friends, neighbors, and just about anyone who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 36 years, Dan Lee Pope; a son, John Michael Pope; a brother, John Pope; 3 sisters, Mabel Hurt, Nina Snyder, and Nan Alford; and son-in-law Charles Lucas. Survivors include 9 children, Becky Lucas, Dan Lee Pope, Jr., and wife Darlene, Joan Thomas and husband Ron, Fritzi Matthews, Candy Afflerbach and husband Ron, Liz Pope and Gary Sutherland, Theresa Schnitz and husband Greg, Meg St. Peter and husband Travis, and Denise Achterberg and husband Robert; 33 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
