

He was born in San Antonio, Texas on May 3, 1941. Manuel met Lydia Irene in 1962 and they married on June 8, 1963. Manuel graduated from Fox Tech High School, Class of '59 and from San Antonio College in 1961. He started his career as an Electronics Technician in the Directorate of Maintenance at Kelly Air Force Base in 1962. He received many successive promotions in recognition of his expertise and leadership and retired in 2000 as Division Chief of the Fighter/Trainer Aircraft Directorate with 38 years of service.
Following his retirement, he served for 20 years with Roy Maas Youth Alternatives on the Board of Directors, most recently serving as President of the Governing Board for the Meadowland Charter District. Manuel also served with the St. Vincent de Paul Society for 12 years. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed music and sports. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and San Antonio Spurs. He leaves a tremendous legacy of servant leadership and philanthropy.
Manuel is survived by his loving wife Lydia Irene Ruiz; children, Richard Manuel Ruiz, Edward Manuel Ruiz (Heather), Melissa Ruiz Curiel (Ruben); 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, and sister, Elia Lopez. He was preceded in death by his parents Manuel and Leonor Ruiz Sr., his siblings Fernando Esparza, Felipe Ruiz, Estella Gonzales, and daughter, Leticia Ruiz Grijalva.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio TX from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, with a Rosary at 7:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life Service. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, July 15, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Dr., San Antonio, TX 78238. Manuel will be laid to rest in San Fernando Cemetery at a later date.
