Margaret Dale Mahon Haynie

Margaret Dale Mahon Haynie born October 15, 1935 in Dallas, TX has died on August 4 of 2025. She was preceded by her beloved husband of 67 years, Jimmy Davis Haynie. She is survived by her three precious children: daughters, Rebecca Kowalski (husband Greg), Brenda Hess (husband Robert), and son Brent Haynie.

They presented her with six adored grandchildren; Travis Kowalski (wife Jamie), Jennifer Heinz (husband Todd), Ashley Ryan (husband Phillip), Alora Hess, Reed Haynie, and Madison Diener (husband Eric); great grandsons, Colton Kowalski, Wyatt Heinz, and Austin Ryan; and great granddaughters, Tessa Kowalski and Hadley Heinz.

Also surviving Dale are her sister, Sally Steward and brother, Mike Mahon and his wife Cynthia, and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by brothers Durward Mahon and Patrick Mahon.

She loved her caretakers; Ariel, Becki, Brittany, Christine and Tommisha.

Dale spent her youth in Lubbock, TX and attended Texas Tech University and SMU. She married Jim Haynie in 1953. After Jim’s graduation from SMU in 1957, they returned to Lubbock to raise their children.

Her passion was designing and creating clothing and interiors using beautiful fabrics. She enjoyed many years of volunteer work in the community and with her children’s activities and loved music, especially ‘pop’. She was a longtime member of The First United Methodist Church.

Dale and Jim moved to Austin in 1977 and began a new way of life in the beautiful hill country. In 1998, she retired from 20 years of office work in real estate, then took continuing classes at the University of Texas for eight years, took up the game of tennis again & also bridge.

Upon Jim’s retirement on Jan. 1, 2005, they found much joy travelling, especially to Maui and Southern California.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, 10AM at Remembrance Gardens: 4214 Capital of Texas Highway North Austin, Texas 78746.
