

Born in San Antonio in 1919, Margaret married George Swan and raised 4 children who, with their spouses, are George Swan III, Anne and Tim Moore, David and Nancy Swan and, Tim and Annie Swan. Margaret had 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was later married to Harry Forbes of New York.
Margaret is known throughout the world as one of the developers of modern Synchronized Swimming and introduced the sport to San Antonio with the organization of the Cygnets of San Antonio, a team that brought national and international recognition to the city.
Margaret authored the textbook used for 20 years as the sport's official teaching manual, COACHING SYNCHRONIZED SWIMMING EFFECTIVELY Human Pinetics Press. She served the sport in many national positions including 5 quadrenniums on the Synchronized Swimming Olympic-International Committee as member, secretary and chairman.
She worked on behalf of Synchronized Swimming around the world including in Mexico, Canada, Germany, England, Czechoslovakia, Netherlands, France, Puerto Rico and Columbia. Her pioneering work was the subject of a 1971 SPORTS ILLUSTRATED feature article, the first in a national magazine on Synchronized Swimming.
Her many honors included the Athletic Foundation Swimming Hall of Fame, the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame first time an award given for Athletics, San Antonio Sports Hall of Fame, San Antonio Express-News' 1973 Sportswoman of the Year, National Synchronized Swimming's Mae McEwan Award for contributions to the sport, and the Texas Women's Hall of Fame inducted with Barbara Bush.
A professor of Physical Education at San Antonio College, she held B.S. and M.Ed degrees from Trinity University.
