Margaret Caldwell Hudson

The family and friends of Margaret Caldwell Nelin Hudson celebrate with thanksgiving her passing into a better life with our Father in Heaven on Thursday, April 19, 2007, at 6:25 P.M. at the age of 81.

A Houstonian, Margaret's life was filled with many happy events that included becoming a war bride to Lloyd Hanks Hank Hudson with a marriage lasting 63 years; entering Rice University at 15 and graduating with a degree in English; raising one daughter and spoiling two wonderful grandchildren.

Margaret's love for books extended from her membership in the Owen Westin Literary Society at Rice to using reading as a guide for her many areas of interest. Granddaughter Margaret Elizabeth tells of this huge bookstore in Rockport, Texas, where the two of them would browse together and then spend rainy afternoons at "Gran and Gramp's condo" reading their treasures!

Margaret's many interests included varied social activities that resulted in being a founding member and first President of the San Antonio Junior Forum, memberships at the Argyle, Sonterra and Oak Hill Country Clubs, numerous bridge groups and fund raising functions.

As a devout Christian, she immersed herself into the everyday life of every church in which she was a member. These activities included numerous Bible Studies including two rounds of Bible Study Fellowship, chairing kitchen crews at St Mark's Lenten Luncheons and other crews at St David's Episcopal Church, serving as the President of Women's Group at both parishes, and co chairing the writing and publication of a cookbook used to raise monies to outfit the new kitchen at St. David's. She was a stalwart member of the Daughters of the King, spending hours daily on her prayer list. Her interests led her to explore the world around her through travel, including the leading of church tours to England for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Hank; daughter, Beth; grandchildren, Margaret Schlesinger and Michael Kierum; and great grandchildren, Alia and Kaelin Kierum.
