With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Margaret B. King (90) of San Antonio, Texas who found peace on April 28, 2026 with her family at her side. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, friend, mother, and grandmother whose absence will be forever missed.
Margaret was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 13, 1936 to Ralph and Mary Brooks and had a brother (Ralph) and a sister (Merleta). She met and married John King at Lakeview Baptist Church in San Antonio, where she taught preschool and first grade after successfully completing her degree in education from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas. They had four children together (Debbie, Becky, and John Jr.), one of whom was stillborn.
Margaret was an active member of University Park Baptist Church, where she later taught school and was the director of the pre-kinder program. She volunteered in the food ministry at the church and with her friends helped start the church library, among a number of other activities. Whenever she could, Margaret loved to travel and ended up visiting most states in the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii. She also loved to spend time with her many friends, whether that meant talking or doing crafts or going places together. She loved doing anything fun, in fact; she was a true lover of life. This attitude allowed her to find great pleasure in even the simple things, like being with her family, going to the zoo, shopping, and enjoying a good meal (especially if it included cake or ice cream at the end).
Although Margaret suffered from dementia in her final years, the sweet spirit that everyone knew never once dimmed. Her kind and giving nature revealed itself in each and every endeavor she undertook, both in church and in life, and the way she freely gave of herself to her family and others serves as all the proof anyone needs that she truly embodied what it means to be a good person.
She often spoke of her mother and father, her siblings, her husband of many years, and her unborn child who all predeceased her; she also spoke fondly of her relatives who took care of her throughout her illness and survive her: daughters Debbie King and Becky Hernandez (Joe Hernandez), her son John King Jr., her grandsons Dylan King and Christopher Gregory, along with her many dogs.
The family will hold visitation from 7:00PM to 9:00PM on May 11, 2026 at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, located at 6321 Bandera Road, San Antonio, TX 78238. Funeral services will be held the next day at 11:00AM on May 12, 2026 at University Park Baptist Church, located at 2308 Cincinnati Ave, San Antonio, TX 78228. Burial will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:00PM.
