Margaret Marian Merritt died Monday, October 13, 2014. She was born on December 7, 1917 in Howe, Indiana to John and Bertha (Schaeffer) Merritt.
Margaret graduated from Lima High School in Howe. She attended Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and later graduated from International Business College in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. She worked for the La Grange County Department of Public Welfare in La Grange, Indiana for 5 years and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy (Waves) in 1943.
She served 2 years and was discharged in October 1945 as a yeomen, first class. She returned to Howe and was a secretary at Howe Military School until 1954 when she moved to San Antonio, Texas and was employed by the Department of Army at Fort Sam Houston. Margaret retired in 1979.
She was a member of St. Mark's Parrish (Episcopal) in Howe, and later became a member of St. David's Episcopal Church in San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by her brother James who died in 1967. She is survived by niece, Judith Perkins of Stroh, Indiana; by great nieces, Alice Snyder of Grayling, Michigan, and Ann Scott of Pittsboro, Indiana, and Jennifer Merritt of Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
