Margaret Lynn "Peggy" Owen passed away on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the age of 64. She was born in Houston, Texas to The Rev. Jan W. Owen and Dorothy R. Owen of San Antonio.
Margaret obtained her high school diploma in Virginia. Her first year of college at St. Andrews Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, North Carolina was interrupted by a tragic automobile accident, which she survived against all odds. After 7 years on dialysis, she received a kidney transplant in 1985, enabling her to live out the rest of her life.
We clearly see the hand of God on Peggy, keeping her with us for the service God had in mind for her. Peggy, the second of the five children, was blessed with musical talent, a sharp and creative intellect and a wonderful sense of humor. She sang in choirs, glee club and choruses and attained a proficiency at the piano.
Peggy was a warm and kind person, who always gave generously of herself. Described as "Inspirational" by many, she knew no strangers. Faced with a difficult injury that made her left arm and leg unusable, Peggy lived each day with courage, determination and a positive attitude, never complaining about the difficulty she experienced doing the most basic of daily tasks. Her outlook and courage provided a shining example to everyone who knew her, reminding them how precious life is and how to live with grace and love.
There is no way to quantify the value she brought to so very many lives from Texas to Virginia, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Kentucky and then back to Texas. Peggy will most definitely be missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Peggy is survived by her brothers and sisters, Jan G. Owen, Ph.D. and his wife, Janis of Waynesboro, Virginia, Susan Owen of San Antonio, Texas, Robert R. Owen of San Antonio, TX and Liz Owen, Ph.D. and husband, Tim Strode, Ph.D. of New York and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
The family would like to express their appreciation for all the care and support provided by the numerous healthcare providers that have helped Peggy throughout her life.
