Margaret Estelle Smolkovicz

Estelle Smolkovicz: Her kind and generous heart beat for the last time on September 11, 2021, one month shy of her 95th birthday. She was a successful businesswoman through the 1950’s and 1960’s. At a time when there were not many women in management positions, she was.

She is predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Leroy M. Smolkovicz and her father and mother, Bert and Fannie Olsen. She is survived by her brother Don Olsen, son Michael Quade, daughter-in-law Debbie Quade, granddaughter, Stephany Williams, and Karen Williams, who she looked upon as a daughter.

We would like to thank the caregivers who made her last few months as good as she or any of the family could have asked or wished for. Thank you to Claudia Costescu and her staff at Just Like Home Care, Cheryl, her hospice nurse, and Kelly Rey, without whose expertise we would never have found Claudia. To all the nurses who cared for Mother through her hospital stays over the last year who went the extra mile, took our calls, and kept us in communication with Mother at a time when we could not be there in person, thank you.

A brief service celebrating her life will be held at the chapel at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Hwy on date Tuesday, October 19th at 1 pm with a committal service to be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery at 2:30 pm. Masked and vaccinated friends and family only. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to your favorite charity.
