Margarita attended Martin High School, where she performed as a Baton Twirler under the direction of Gloria Dabdoub at an early age. While at Martin, she formed many lifelong friendships. After high school, she married the love of her life, Fernando Collazo Sr., and together they settled in San Antonio. Later, they settled in Bulverde, Texas, where they shared over 56 years of marriage. Margarita and Fernando enjoyed listening to music and dancing with friends and family.
She was well known for her amazing Mexican cooking and entertaining her friends and family. She also had a deep love of the arts. She always had several large canvases in her home studio, where she joyfully painted flowers, scenery, and abstract works in beautiful, bold colors.
Margarita was very active, keeping herself busy with 5k races. She also kept in touch with her classmates from 1960 by organizing get-togethers every five years. Later she joined the esteemed “Red Hat Society” and spent many days having fun with the ladies. She was very active in the art community and was a devoted member of the choir, directed by Rick Ramirez at St. Joseph’s Church of Honey Creek and generously volunteered her time at the Honey Creek Festival.
Mamaw, as the grandkids called her, had a special relationship with each grandchild. She loved spending time teaching them about cooking, gardening, art, and family history.
Margarita was preceded in death by her parents, Eduardo Romo and Zoila R. de Romo; her brothers, Roberto Romo and Ricardo Romo; and her sisters, Elsa Romo, Sylvia Romo, and Adrian Romo.
She is survived by her brothers Candelario Romo and Eduardo Romo, her children, Fernando Collazo Jr. (wife, Colleen) and Patricia Sacco (husband, Rick); her grandchildren, Dillon Collazo (wife, Hannah), Cameron Collazo, Morgan Sacco, Mia Sacco, and Chase Sacco; and her great-grandchild, Killian Collazo, son of Dillon and Hannah Collazo.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Suncrest Hospice, their compassionate nurses, and her wonderful caregivers, Anjelica Luna and Idalmis Zayas, for the companionship, kindness, and excellent care our mother received.
