Maria Angelini, a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 94, surrounded by her loving family. Her warmth, strength, and love left an enduring mark on everyone who had the honor of knowing her.
She found joy in simple pleasures—tending to her blooming garden, enjoying spirited games of bingo, bunco and poker, and losing herself in the pages of a good book. But above all, her greatest passion was caring for those she loved.
Maria was born in Floresville, Texas, to Jose Baldemar Zuniga and Angela Reyes. She lived there in the early years of her life, where she developed a lifelong love for the outdoors and a deep affection for horses. Her childhood experiences in the country shaped her energetic spirit and appreciation for the simple things in life.
She met her future husband, Charlie, while attending Fox Tech High School. The high school sweethearts married at San Fernando Cathedral in 1949, and shared a devoted partnership that lasted 58 years raising four children together. In her younger years, she remained active, enjoying softball and even working as a sheet metal worker at Kelly Air Force Base.
Maria’s life was a testament to resilience and unconditional love; most profoundly seen in the care she gave to her son Dominic. Born with a disability that doctors believed would limit his life to just a few days, Dominic lived for 15 beautiful years, a gift made possible by Maria’s tireless devotion and unwavering care. Her love gave him - and the entire family - years of joy, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
As a dedicated wife, she supported her husband in every step of his career with the San Antonio Fire Department. Maria was a woman of remarkable gifts: a talented seamstress, an extraordinary cook and baker, and a graceful dancer. She was a natural storyteller, a lifelong learner, and a firm believer in the power of education. She found comfort and enjoyment in watching classic Western movies. She was a master of hospitality and celebration. Cooking extraordinary homemade Thanksgiving meals and legendary birthday cakes.
She is also lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, extended family, lifelong friends, and those honored to call her their Godmother.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charlie Angelini, her dear son Dominic Angelini, and her brother Edward Zuniga and his wife, Dolores. Maria is survived by her loving family. Her son Carlos Angelini, along with his daughter Michelle Dinan. Her daughter, Susan Guadarrama, and her husband, Dennis, their children: Dennis and his wife, Lindsey, Victoria and her husband, Austin Riesselman, and their daughter Aries. Her daughter Stephanie Garcia and her husband Mike, their children Maria, Michael, and Julia.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Porter Loring Mortuary, 1101 McCullough Ave, San Antonio, TX, 78212. The Rosary will begin at 7:00 PM. The following morning, Thursday, May 29, 2025, a procession will depart the funeral home at 9:30 AM for St. James the Apostle Catholic Church, where Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow in San Fernando Cemetery II, where Maria will be laid to rest with her late husband, Charlie, and son, Dominic.
Maria Angelini will be remembered not only for the love she gave but for the quiet strength and grace with which she lived her life. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of those she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace, reunited with her loved ones in the presence of God.
