

María Borrero passed away on September 16, 2015. Born in Pasto, Colombia on July 2, 1924, she spent her childhood years in Colombia and Ecuador. In her mid-twenties, she moved to New York City, where she met her beloved future husband, José Joaquín Borrero. Together they started a family of four children, before returning to Colombia. After sojourns in Amsterdam, Bogota, and Washington DC, they settled in San Antonio in 1997.
Her husband, who passed in 2004, preceded her in death.
María is survived by her four children, María Cristina of Jackson, New Jersey, Sarah of Houston, Texas, Josefina (Patricio) of Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Mauricio (Phyllis) of Queens, New York; five grandchildren, Cristina Nappi (Joseph), Catalina Millán (Juan), Nicolas Millán, and Rebecca and Joey Borrero; and three great-grandchildren, Gianna and Toni Nappi and Ignacio Romano-Güemes. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, she will be forever remembered by all for her big heart, generous spirit, playful sense of humor, and strong faith.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015 at Porter Loring North.
