Maria del Carmen Guzman, Ph.D.

Maria Del Carmen Guzman passed away peacefully on April 22, 2023, in San Antonio, Texas. Maria was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Antonio G. Guzman Sr. and Margarita Chavarria Guzman. She graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in Corpus Christi and earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree, Master of Arts Degree, and Doctorate in Special Education from the Texas Women’s University in Denton, Texas. She worked for and retired from the Dallas Independent School District.

Maria is survived by brothers Antonio G. Guzman, Jr. (Esther) and Luis Guzman (Phyllis), sister Margaret Mireles (late Judge Andy Mireles), and numerous well-loved nieces and nephews.

Maria was a world traveler and most especially liked traveling to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, and Disney World. Whataburger and Mexican food topped her list of favorites. Her family and many friends dearly loved Maria and will deeply miss her.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Porter Loring Mortuary.
