

Affectionately known as Nena, she was born in Laredo, Texas November 4, 1929, the daughter of Jesus Camacho and Teresa Lopez.
Nena married Antonio Ramirez, son of Maria de la Luz Tenorio and Francisco Ramirez, on July 2, 1954, in Laredo Tx. Tony was a career United States Marine and Maria became a Marine wife polishing brass, boots and always keeping his uniforms inspection ready. Nena traveled with Tony to his duty stations while he was in the Marine Corps. They both decided to settle in San Antonio, Texas when Tony retired from the Marine Corps after 22 years.
Nena devotion to the Catholic Church and her strong faith sustained her through the trials of Tony’s overseas deployments and separations. She was a founding member of Holy Family Catholic Church in San Antonio and was a member of the Altar Society and Marianas. She loved to cook and entertain her family and friends. Nena enjoyed playing Bunco and belonged to several Bunco groups. Her love of music and dancing shines through her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, GySgt Antonio Ramirez, USMC (Retired) and her sisters Olivia Gonzalez (Manuel), Robles Betanzos (Vincente), Delia Martinez (Camilo), and brother Jesus L. Camacho (Melecia).
Survivors include her son, Fernando Ramirez (Patricia); Sandra Russell (John); grandsons, Michael Ramirez, Matthew Ramirez (Kristin), John Ramirez; Zachary Russell (Rachel) and ESN Nicholas Russell, USN and great granddaughters; Fermina, Isabelle, Natalie, Vivian Ramirez, and a great grandson, Maximus Wilder Russell.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Rosary and Vigil Service to begin at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Sunset Northwest Funeral Home, 6321 Bandera Rd, San Antonio, TX 78238. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM on December 4, 2025, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 152 Florencia Ave, San Antonio, TX 78228. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
