Maria Magdalena Valdez, a 47-year resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Friday morning July 1, 2022, after suffering sudden heart failure as she peacefully slept in her home. Her daughter, Daria, and her son, Michaelangelo, were by her side. She was 72 years old.
Maria was born July 22, 1949 at 6:45 pm in Laredo, Texas at Mercy Hospital. She was the youngest of 6 siblings. Maria spent her childhood in Laredo and Dallas, Texas. She also lived in Augusta, Georgia and Panama City, Panama. Maria received her Associates Degree in Bookkeeping from San Antonio College and worked as an administrative assistant in the front offices of local insurance and shipping companies over the years.
Maria was the most beautiful and wonderful mother and grandmother. She was devoted to teaching her children to love and serve the Lord. Some of Marias favorite things included working in her yard and cooking delicious meals to share with friends, family, and strangers alike. She avidly watched cooking programs and collected recipes.
Maria also loved giving gifts, clothing, blankets and other items she personally created and sewed with her sewing machine. Maria loved thrifting and finding treasures. She was enthusiastic in decorating her home, creating flower arrangements and wreaths, organizing, and especially spending time with family and friends. Maria had the gifts of hospitality, discernment, and wisdom.
But most of all Maria had a passion for prayer, reading the Bible daily, sharing Jesus with others, and attending church regularly to grow in her faith, to fellowship with other believers, and to serve. Her passionate desire was to see her children and grandchildren accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Maria loved serving in the nursery, changing diapers, and holding and comforting babies. Her dream was to one day travel to Africa and serve as a missionary to care for children.
Maria is preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Maria; her eldest sister Isidra; and her brothers, Antonio Jr. and Juan. She is survived by her firstborn son, Michaelangelo; her beloved daughter, Daria; her eldest brother, Jose Angel and his wife Dolores; and her sister, Guadalupe. Maria also leaves behind her precious grandchildren, Cailin Maria, Fallon Edward, and Kathryn Louisa along with many dear nephews and nieces and extended family members. She was well-loved and will be deeply missed by all her friends and family.
