
Marie Anne Pitt, age 89, of San Antonio died November 14, 2009 at The Forum at Lincoln Heights. Anne was born on November 17, 1919 in Terre Haute, Indiana to John and Anna Barnes Weisent. On October 5, 1940 she married M.E. "Doc" Austin. Mr. Austin died in 1970. In 1975 she married Dr. Henry "Hank" Pitt. Dr. Pitt died in 1976.
Anne is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha Anne and James Fairbanks of Shelton, Nebraska; granddaughter, Dr. Stacy Lynn Fairbanks and her husband, Owen Brown of Portland, Oregon; grandson, Alan Austin Fairbanks of Long Beach California; and sister, Lois Queen of Houston, Texas.
Anne grew up in Indiana, moving to Texas to attend Texas State College for Women in Denton where she received a degree in Business Administration. While attending TSCW she met Doc Austin a cadet at Texas A&M.
Following graduation they married before he began his four year term in the Army during World War II. Following his discharge, Doc, a petroleum engineer, was employed by Sun Oil Company. His employment took them to several Texas towns before he was transferred to Mt. Pleasant, Michigan where they lived until 1958 when he was transferred to Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In 1970 he was transferred to Dallas.
With each new domicile, Anne was quick to make a house a home and embed herself in the activities and organizations of the community. In addition to her church, she was a member of numerous organizations supporting the alumni groups of TWU and Texas A&M and various related scholarship programs, always generous with her time, talents and resources.
After leaving Dallas in 1970 following the death of Mr. Austin, and before moving to San Antonio in 1993 she lived in Bridgeport, Pittsburg, Gainesville, and Rochester, Minnesota.
Always seeking an intellectual challenge, Anne returned to her study of business administration, earning an MBA from her alma mater, Texas Woman's University.
Her leisure time was filled with many hobbies. She was an avid reader, golfer, bridge player and world traveler. She found pleasure in music of all types, had a wonderful singing voice and loved to dance. Her interests included an enjoyment of visual art and performing art, particularly theatre. Always a sports fan, as her health began to limit her mobility, she focused on the San Antonio Spurs, rarely missing a televised game.
In addition to Mr. Austin and Dr. Pitt, Anne was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
