

Marilyn K. Collins, age 63, died on Thursday, October 25, 2001, in San Antonio succumbing to a five year battle with cancer. She was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. She was an avid reader, and artistically talented as witnessed by her water color paintings and exquisitely crafted quilts which she generously shared with family and friends. Among many things that will perpetuate her memory was her unique sense of humor and quick wit that will remain a delightful experience for all who were acquainted with her. Mrs. Collins was a Civil Service employee who worked for 27 years with the Department of the Army before retiring as a GS-6 in l994. Her employment included assignment in the Offices of the DCSLOG and DCSOPS Headquarters, U.S. Army Medical Command, Fort Sam Houston, and the office of the Director of Public Works, Fort Sam Houston. Subsequent to her retirement from Civil Service, she worked part-time with Centurion Business Computers in San Antonio. She was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, and while living there attended the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Orwig Dean; father, Al Basil; and grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Colonel Ret. Robert P. Bob Collins; daughter, Susan K. Pope; son, Andrew J. Pope; step-daughter, Lynn M. Collins McMahon, all of San Antonio; step-son, SSG Robert P. Collins, Jr., Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; sister, Jane Trumbull, Bradner Ohio; four grandchildren, Christina M. Pope, Brett A. Barney, Shannon P. Barney, and Bryce P. Collins; and one nephew, PFC Ryan M. Trumbull, Fort Hood, Texas. The family of Marilyn Collins would like to express their profound gratitude to the staff of the Hematology and Oncology Department and other support personnel at Brooke Army Medical Center for their professional excellence and personal caring during this difficult time. The family will receive visitors on Monday from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Porter Loring Mortuary North
