August 18 in Sabinas, Coahuila, Mexico to parents of English and Mexican descent, Marina
lived in San Antonio, Texas for the majority of her life.
Marina was an inspiration of beauty. Not only was she a physically beautiful woman, but she also reflected an inner spirit of love. She searched for that which was positive and uplifting in life and was drawn to kindred spirits. She manifested affection and love through her acts of supporting and consoling people in their times of need.
People will remember our mother as an engaging, charming, and vibrant woman. She left an impression on everyone. Marina was energized by her passion of cooking and honored her friends and family with gifts of foods that became well-known throughout San Antonio. With the collaboration of Sarah Reed and Frank Valdez, Marina published a book - Sweets from Marina with Love - that was a testimony to her creative and loving nature. We will miss her delicious pastries that have remained with us as precious memories.
She is survived by her husband, Joaquin B. Gonzalez, of 58 years; six children and their spouses - Marina, Sonya, Elisa, Rebecca, Robert, and Monica; 3 grandchildren - Charles, Joaquin, and Jonathan; as well as two sisters, Alice Abdo, Mary Lou Tamez, a brother, Peter N. Reed, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She wanted her friends and family to know how much she loved them.
She joins her brother Henry and her parents, Celia and Peter, who rest in peace. At her request, a private service will be held for her husband, children, grandchildren, and related spouses only.
