
Colonel Marion Kern Kennedy Retired passed away on Monday, December 27, 2010 at her home at the Army Residence Community in San Antonio, Texas. Marion Kennedy was born in Allentown, PA on October 11, 1919 to Estelle and Harvey Kern.
She earned her nursing degree at the University of Pennsylvania before joining the U.S. Army Nurse Corps. Marion served in the China-Burma-India Theater for two and a half years with the 20th General Hospital, activated on May 15 1942.
During an outstanding career, Colonel Kennedy served in assignments in a variety of locations including Walter Reed Army Hospital, Germany, the Pentagon, and Fort Sam Houston. She received her Masters degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
Marion Kennedy was a lifelong member of the Seibert Evangelical Congregational Church in Allentown, PA. Marion was active in a variety of groups and committees at the Army Residence Community, with the Women's Overseas Service League, and the AMEDD Medical Museum at Fort Sam Houston.
She enjoyed bridge, bible studies, and time with friends and family. Colonel Kennedy was predeceased by her husband Lt. Colonel Robert Eugene Kennedy Retired who passed away in1985.
She is survived by her nephew David N. Hutchinson, his wife Margaret, and son Mark Hutchinson, by niece Rebecca H. Turcott and her husband Robert and their children Robert Cornell, Elizabeth Cornell, Sarah Turcott, Deborah Turcott, Denise Turcott, and Scott Turcott. She is also survived by step son Douglas M. Kennedy and his wife Cyndy, grandson Carter Kennedy and his wife Stephanie and their son Franklin, by granddaughter Stacy Kennedy, and step daughter Bernadine Walker Granada.
Marion Kennedy was beloved by family and friends and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Porter Loring.
