

Don served proudly in the U.S. Marine Corps and fought in the Korean War.
As a graduate of The University of Texas at Austin with a Master’s Degree, he spent his Public Education Career (36 yrs) teaching at Oak Grove Elementary, Principal of Montgomery Elementary, Principal of Walzem Elementary and retiring as Principal of Northern Hills Elementary School, all in San Antonio, Texas.
Don was preceded in death by his Wife of 57 years, Evelyn Ruth (Vaughn) and Parents, William Albert and Etheline Gilmer of Bellville, Sister Shirley Potter of Ft. Worth, Brother Dr. Jack Wilkinson of Rosenberg, all in Texas.
Don is survived by his Son, Scott Wilkinson, Daughter, Shelley (Charles) Garcia, Granddaughters: Kala Curtis, Hannah Wilkinson, Hailey Garcia, Hannah Garcia, Natalie Garcia, Grandsons: Garrett Wilkinson, Luke Wilkinson, Nathan Garcia, all of San Antonio, Texas, and countless family and friends.
Don was a member of Northeast Baptist Church. He was known for his secret recipe salsa, and knowledge of anything/everything and his love of fishing/poker. He was devoted to his wife and adored all his grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021 from 6pm-9pm at Sunset Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 9am at the funeral home with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park.
