Marisa was a shining light in our world, and the very best example of grace overcoming adversity. Herdrive in life was supporting her family and friends while exploring the world and learning new things.Marisa had a natural gift at making friends and connecting with others, and as a result she impacted thelives of many people, and made many friends all around the world. Her natural ability to connect camefrom a strong sense of compassion and empathy that allowed her to engage with anyone, includinganimals, which were a very important part of her life.
Strength through love, compassion, peace and positivity was a central theme in Marisa’s life and she usedthat strength to get through many significant challenges, but always with grace, beauty and kindness.Marisa had two fights with cancer in her lifetime. The first was early in life during her late teens. Thatearly fight shaped Marisa’s life, inspiring her to live to the fullest every day, to be good towards others, and to always seek out love and shun darkness. She lived by those rules throughout her life and she neveronce let the injustice of cancer ruin her enjoyment of life or diminish her compassionate character.
Marisa spent most of her life in San Antonio where she had a 20 year marketing career at USAA. True toher character, Marisa considered her greatest work achievement to be all of the many friends andwonderful people that she met there. Marisa cultivated an exceptional following of friends and colleaguesat USAA, and many of them impacted her life in wonderful ways as she impacted theirs over many years.
Marisa believed in family and made an extra effort to always stay in touch with family members inupstate New York where she spent a good deal of her early childhood. She always missed the greenspaces of New York, and the love of her Becallo and Filer families who resided there, so she frequentlyreturned to visit them, particularly her grandmother Florence, who Marisa was very close with, and whonow embraces her in heaven.
Marisa’s strength lives on in her San Antonio family including her husband Devin Becker; mother GraceBecallo; father Joseph Filer, stepmother Bev Filer; sister Jaime and her children Ethan and Elisa who areMarisa’s greatest love and triumph.
Marisa loved many animals, but above all she loved elephants. She was able to visit The Preserve inFredericksburg, TX a couple of times and fell in love with the elephants there, so in lieu of flowers orgifts please consider donating to support the care of the elephants and other animals. You can donatethrough the Friends of The Preserve website which is available through this link:https://www.elephantpreserve.org/donate/. Choose a donation amount, then the “honor someone” option, and enter Marisa Becker and [email protected] as the email address to notify.

Marisa will be deeply missed by all who knew her but she will live on forever in our hearts. In her finaldays Marisa said to all of us “I am not afraid.” We should all remember that and try to live up to herexample as we go forward.
