Mariscela Flores Gaona, the most beautiful loving mother and wife, has gone to be with her Lord and her family, mother and father Elvira and Juventino, and siblings Eduardo, Thelma, in eternal rest. She graced all those she knew with love, an open heart, and the beautiful smile that welcomed you to her heart. Born in Laredo TX. June 17, 1933 and passed peacefully December 9, 2021 at the age of 88.
She lived a diverse youth between Mexico and the United States. Her greatest religious influence was her grandmother Ines Guerra who inculcated prayer at a very young age praying the rosary daily. She lived in Zacatecas, where her family mined mercury in Mercurio Zacatecas. Due to lack of schools in this area, she was sent to board with a religious order in Durango Mexico where she solidified even further her faith during the latter part of her grade school education. She then briefly returned to Laredo for a year of high school at which time she met her future husband Raul before leaving for Chicago, Illinois to complete her high school education at Mundelein academy. Soon after graduating, she returned to Laredo and in 1959 married her husband, Raul. He was in his third year of medical school when they moved to Mexico City to complete his education. During this time, she had three children Raul, Francisco, and Ana. Her husband Raul was drafted into the army, and they moved to Fort Slocum in New Rochelle, New York for the next three years where Rodrigo was born. They returned to San Antonio to complete the army obligation at Fort Sam Houston where her last two children Octavio and Diego were born.
She was always an amazing woman, mother, and friend to all that knew her. All of her children's friends called her their second mom. She opened her heart and her home to all regardless of circumstances and situations. Her loss will be felt by all those she touched but especially by her family, and her 12 grandchildren Gabriel, Caitlin, Macarena, Diego, Allisandra, Raul Sandro, Emma, Lucia, Ana, Katia, Marbella, and Elena, her daughters-in-law Magdalena, Sandra, Carrie, and her son-in-law Carlos, her sister Alma and her family Royce, Eric and Robert.
She embraced her faith throughout her life donating and participating in her parish for over 45 years. She volunteered for a perpetual adoration at Saint Pius at 3 o'clock in the morning and did so on a weekly basis for over 15 years. She will be dearly missed by all, but her spirit lives in each and every soul that she touched. Her beautiful smile has retired but her amazing soul remains with all of us.
Mariscela will be laid to rest in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery.
