

Martha Ann Thaddeus, age 90, passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2017, San Antonio, Texas. She was born Mexia, Texas on November 25, 1926 to Sam Stell Cox and Lilly Lee Harper Cox. After growing up in Mexia and graduating from Mexia High School at the age of 16, she moved to Austin to attend the University of Texas. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority and graduated with a BA in Sociology in June of 1947 at the age of 20. Martha then moved to San Antonio where she worked and lived with her aunt and uncle, Dr. and Mrs. Thomas H. Sharp. They soon introduced her to her partner for life Dr. Aloysius Peter Thaddeus. They were married on January 1, 1949 and they were married for 58 years. Martha Ann loved her family and the city of San Antonio. She spent her life raising her four children, supporting her husband in his medical practice and volunteering through many organizations in the city. She was an active member of the Bexar County Medical Society Auxiliary, The Junior League of San Antonio, The Battle of Flowers Assn, the Forum, The Monte Vista Garden Club and The Military Civilian Club. She was a Bluebird volunteer with Southwest Texas Methodist Hospital and volunteered in many areas of her church, Christ Episcopal Church. After her last child went to college she decided she needed to keep busy and went to work for many years at the Plate and Platter. She worked there with many old friends and made many new ones, until the shop closed. She then continued using her salesmanship skills as she spent a few more years working at Stein Mart. During this time, she also welcomed 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren that she continually added to her inner circle. Martha Ann was a great wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and always had a special place for those she enjoyed being with. She loved her church and the people she met there, it was a sanctuary for her after the loss of her husband.
Mrs. Thaddeus is survived by her four children; Martha Ann Burch, Sarah Reeves (Bill), Peter Thaddeus (Beth) and Thomas Thaddeus (Lisa); 8 grandchildren, Marti Sala (James), Leah Hinojosa (Joe), Katherine Walters (Gary), Alice Jewell (Jeff), David Reeves (Julianne), Natalie Thaddeus, Charles Thaddeus and Annabelle Thaddeus; 11 great grandchildren and many cousins. She will be forever remembered and greatly missed by everyone whose life she touched.
A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017 at 10:00 am, Christ Episcopal Church, 510 Belknap Place, San Antonio, TX. Private entombment for the family only. In lieu of flowers donations to Christ Episcopal Church Memorial Fund or The Battle of Flowers Association.
