

Mary Katherine Bright, born Mary Katherine Hightower and known to her family and friends as Katie, passed from this life to be with her Lord and Master on June 4, 2008. She was born April 17, 1950 to Bill and Lois Hightower in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Katie was diagnosed with an incurable cancer in September 2006, but remained vibrant and an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.
In her own words ~ I am humbled, not only by the disease, but by the honor of so many friends and by your love and concern. I cannot even begin to express how much strength you give me. Just knowing you care so much and are praying for me gives me the ability to take each day and each step one at a time.
She became notorious for her stylish hats that she wore with grace, dignity and elegance.
She was described by her friends, family and healthcare providers throughout her journey and battle against this terrible disease as their hero, inspiration and source of strength.
It was they who said she was awesome, strong-willed and courageous with a wonderful unyielding attitude toward her challenges.
She is survived by her precious children: Paul Joseph Jordan and wife, Lindy; Christina Angela Gray and husband, Brandon; Stephanie Marie Chamrad and fiance, Bobby Cervantez; cherished grandchildren: Lanie Katherine Jordan, Brooke Elizabeth Jordan and James Brayden Gray; her adored brothers: Rick and Gordon Hightower; her beloved nieces: Katherine East, Jan, Serena and Meredith Hightower.
The family wishes to express their most sincere gratitude and thankfulness to all the many friends, especially those closest to her, who were constantly by her side in this, the most challenging journey of her life.
Your love, support and constant concern gave her strength to live a longer and more meaningful life. She was so blessed by each of you.
The family would also like to express sincerest and genuine thankfulness to all of the H.B. Zachry family and to the Zachry Corporation for all their support and love. She was so blessed to know and work for such wonderful people.
The family expresses sincerest gratefulness to her physicians, in particular, Dr. Alain Mita, the many nurses and healthcare providers at CTRC who made her path on this incredible journey almost pleasant ~ she was blessed to be cared by you.
Our mother, sister, grandmother "Granny Cake", aunt, and best friend will be remembered in our hearts and souls forever.
