She was the fifth child of Ollie and Gertrude Brummett Pullig, the family preceded her in death. Mary Ruth "Aunt Snookie" is survived by a niece, Shirley Gay Plumley; one great nephew, Robert of Mountain Home, Arkansas and a nephew, Michael, serving in the U.S. Navy; cousin, Norma Fields, a resident of San Antonio, Texas.
Mary Ruth was a distinguished veteran with 32 years of military service, serving in the Asiatic Pacific, France, Germany and Hawaii in various nursing assignments as general duty, Supervisor and finally in 1951, as an Army Health Nurse.
In 1975, she retired at Wm. Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, Texas. She was awarded the American Campaign medal; WWII Victory medal, Bronze Star; Armed Forces Reserve medal; Army Commendation medal; National Defense Service medal; 1 Oakleaf Cluster; Armed Forces Reserve medal with 10 year Dev; and Meritorious Service medal.
Mary Ruth always said she felt like a "Millionaire" because she had so many "Good" friends. We, too, were blessed with her friendship. She was blessed with the love of God and the pleasure of sharing her time, love, hobbies, birthday celebrations with friends and family.
"Mary Sunshine" as she was called by her Women's Overseas Service League members, spent years sending greetings to members and friends for birthdays or illnesses. She was a member of the Army Nurse Corps Association and the American Legion Post 10. She was a loyal volunteer at the AMED Museum Foundation and contributed to many organizations with her time and money.
We will all miss her friendship and cheerful love for life.
