I'm so sorry for Mary Ann's passing. I will always remember her for her sense of humor and all the laughs and wild capers we shared in high school. She was a treasure.

Dear Family, I grew up in St. Sophia Church. My Mother is Dorothy Prattes; her sisters are Katherine Prattes Green, Mary Prattes Harris and Angie Prattes Kirmon. I was friends with Carrie Postolos. In 1970, I was Miss Greece for the "Carnival of Nations" and Carrie borrowed Mary Ann's Greek blue velvet ankle length dress for me to wear. I felt like a princess in it. I saw Mary Ann at my Uncle Andy Prattes funeral about 4 years ago. I spoke with her and told her about the loan of her dress. I also mentoned seeing her often in the Newspaper for modeling. She, my cousin Dr. Alex Prattes and me enjoyed reliving older times. I always thought so highly of Mary Ann, she blossomed where ever she was. I know you feel such a loss in her passing. Please know she is watching over you all and we will see her again in Heaven. We will have a great time exchanging stories and loving each other. Again I'm sorry for your loss. Blessings to All

Mary Ann was such an original - a strong woman with a vibrant creative mind. She gave me some of my harshest criticisms and strongest encouragements. My career as an academic has been modeled in her example. Heartfelt thanks for the life of Mary Ann!

I am broken hearted that I cannot be there. Mary Ann will always hold a cherished place in my heart! Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. She was a remarkable woman who is with me everyday and always will be. May flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

As our teacher at Trinity, Mary Ann taught us to act and direct. But from her I also learned how to direct my life -- into art, beauty, literature, creativity on many levels. She was a huge influence. Her laugh was a joy, her brilliance was a gift to us all.

My condolences to her family. Mary Ann was a remarkable woman. teacher and artist. She took an 18 year old Mexican American kid from El Paso and turned him into an actor and a playwright. I will miss her wisdom and sardonic humor.

Mary Ann changed my life entirely. When I was a student at Trinity University, she had so much faith in my abilities, that I found the courage to graduate early from Trinity and follow my dreams at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. I will forever be indebted to her. She was a remarkable teacher and I was lucky to be her student.

I'm sorry I can't be there for the service but I'm very glad I got to spend time with Mary Ann at Highlands Hills the last time I was in San Antonio.

Koumbara, Those that knew Mary Ann will never forget her. She was so fortunate to have a sister such as you to help her in every way. Her memory will always be eternal.

There has been no one in my life who more influenced me than Mary Ann. She made me an artist and then pushed me to exceed the standards of artistry ever chance she could. She was tough and stern, yet she was kind and unstinting in her love. She made me believe in myself. I owe my career and the path of my life to her. I will continue to dedicate my work to her for as long as I am a writer.

On Tuesday, March 18th I was writing in my journal early in the morning and for some reason I started to recollect an experience I had not thought of for a very long time. I was writing about Mary Ann Colias who directed a play called Wait Until Dark back in my days as a student at Trinity University back in the early 1970s. She cast me as the lead the characters Roat. The play is about criminals searching for a doll full of heroin at a home of a blind woman. My character was a cold blooded sociopath who attempts to murder the protagonist. What I remembered was on how Mary Ann had taken a large risk in casting me in the role. I was more of a comic actor at the time and I was not very focused as a student. I also had a speech impediment, not a serious one but enough to keep me from getting cast in other shows. Mary Ann picked me and was always straightforward with me. She told me the reason I wasnt getting roles was because of my speech problem. She said she was casting me against the advice of other faculty members and I would have to work hard. I agreed. She assigned me a private voice coach and she coached me on acting lessons with rigor. She isolated me from the rest of the cast to make me feel the essence of a sociopath. We had private sessions that sent shivers down my spine as I explored the characters evil center. It was fascinating experience for me. It was a short run and I remember vividly what she said to me after the last performance. She said, If they gave out Oscars for play performances you would have gotten one. You got better every night and I appreciate your hard work. You can only imagine what that meant to me as a young man trying to find his way in theater. As life would have it, I did not turn out to be an actor nor in theater. I am CEO of a nonprofit organization in New York City. I am an artist and everything I do in my work I approach creatively. So that morning as I was journaling my stream of consciousness I was a bit surprised to be remembering a teacher and an acting experience from long ago. I remember that Monday morning writing a question: What did you see in me Mary Ann? I never stayed in touch, I never saw her again. That same week on Saturday, March 22nd I was online and decided on a whim to visit my Facebook page which I do not frequent. I saw a notice from a mutual friend mentioning that Mary Ann had died. I was stunned and saddened to hear the news and I was also deeply moved. I believe we are all connected in ways we cannot begin to understand, and I believe that everyone we meet, in some way whether big or small, we have impact in each others lives. This synchronistic experience touched me deeply. I am at a time in my life where I have been reflecting and examining my life as I face a major milestone and a very challenging time. So it is no accident to me that on a Monday I was writing about an experience where someone had faith in me and my abilities and later that week I would feel the depth of that lesson so many years later. I spent the weekend reflecting on my experience in acting with Mary Ann, and I asked again, What did you see in me? I felt a great gratitude for having had the privilege of being singled out by this wonderful teacher and director who took a chance on me. She saw something in me, thank you Mary Ann.
