Mary J. Krueger

Mary Jean Ward Krueger, age 86, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on Monday, December 30, 2024. A visitation for Mary will be held Monday, January 6, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Sunset Funeral Home, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, TX 78218, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

Mary was born April 17, 1938, and lived almost her entire life in San Antonio. Her parents were Charles Vernon Ward and Agnes Gates Ward. She was an only child and was very close to her maternal grandmother Mary Rogers Gates.

Mary’s greatest passion was ice skating. She trained in Colorado Springs and auditioned for the Ice Capades. Her grandmother Jennie Ward sewed her many delightful skating costumes throughout her childhood. After having children, she continued to skate when she could. Mary also loved to play tennis, chat with friends, do crossword puzzles, and read.

She is survived by her husband Manfred Wolfgang Krueger and her children: James Glenn Krueger (wife: Emma), Ingrid Krueger Towey (husband: Brian), and Manfred Christopher Krueger (wife: Stefanie). Manfred and Mary were married for 64 years full of love and companionship.

She is survived by her grandchildren: Johanna Margaret Krueger, Marlene Elisabeth Krueger, Cas Towey, Regina Clare Towey, and Sylvia Katherine Towey. Her grandchildren Johanna and Marlene will especially miss drawing pictures and playing Scrabble together.

Mary first worked as a secretary and medical transcriptionist and then ran a business with her husband for many years. After retiring Mary was active in her neighborhood association and friends with all her neighbors.

Mary was always a free spirit. Her family will remember Mary’s great sense of humor and creativity.
