

Mary was born in Poteet, TX on July 25, 1919. She grew up in Goldfinch, TX and attended a one-room school house through her elementary years; later transferring to and graduating from the Pearsall, TX Frio County school system. Later, at the age of 50, she became a schoolteacher in San Antonio, TX graduating Summa-Cum-Laude from St. Mary's University. She taught in the Forest Hills Elementary School for approximately ten years.
She married William L. Ross, a cartographer at Ft. Sam Houston, in 1942. While Mr. Ross was overseas in WWII, Mary took a secretarial course and was employed by United Services Automobile Association for a number of years.
She is survived by her only son, Kenneth Lee Ross of San Antonio; sister, Dr. Nell Nations; nephew, John Forist; and niece, Renelle Sellers and her family, Kelly, Morgan and twins, Chloe and Austin, all of San Antonio; nieces, Maxine McLean and family of Hilton Head, SC and her family; Beverly Hundley of Boerne and her family.
Preceding Mary in death were her husband, William Ross; brother, Carroll Avent Nations; sister, Evelyn Nobel of San Antonio and her husband, Colonel A.K. Maxie Nobel, in the Philippines, and parents, John and Frankie Nations of Pearsall, TX.
Mary was a life long member of First Baptist Church of San Antonio; she was an accomplished musician in piano and mandolin, an expert seamstress, cook and home decorator. She was a true friend to many, an unselfish, loving, self-disciplined person with a quiet nature and a deep devotion to her church and to God. We will all miss her very much.
