Patricia, or Pat, as she was known by her family and friends, was born on March 14, 1929, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of Cyril Brown and Marion (Hermann) Brown. Beloved Patricia had three sisters: Kathleen McPhilliamy, who lives in North Carolina, and Ramona Brown and Geraldine Bass, who predeceased her.
Patricia attended Catholic schools growing up and went on to Avila College, now Avila University, in Kansas City, Mo., where she studied English literature. She dreamed of travel and adventure and joined the U.S. Department of State, serving as a secretary at the U.S. embassies in Managua, Nicaragua, Istanbul, Turkey, and Baghdad, Iraq, where she met her husband, William H. Underwood, a petroleum engineer. Bill and Pat, as they were known, continued to travel, living in England and the Netherlands, where they raised a family, in addition to San Antonio and Uvalde, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents and Bill, who died in 1979. Patricia returned to San Antonio, where she volunteered through her parish, St. Matthews and was a lifelong student of the Bible.
Through the decades that followed, Patricia devotedly raised her children, Marian Underwood, Elaine Migdal; William Underwood and Matthew Underwood, and helped raise her granddaughter, Isabella Patricia Moreno, freely dedicating time and opportunity to them. She was greatly loved by all, most especially her four children and grandchildren, who also include Serena Migdal, William Migdal and Zachary Moreno. Beautiful, kind and a beacon of pure goodness, Patricia never sought attention but towered in true greatness.
