Matt was born on September 1, 1974 to James and Linda Aycock in El Paso, Tx. He graduated from MacArthur High School in 1993 and attended Baylor University.
Matt was preceded in death by his mother, Linda Easterling Aycock, and his uncles Howard Aycock and Edward Easterling. He is survived by his father, James (wife Paula) Aycock, his brother, James Aycock, Jr. (wife Amy), sister Amy Aycock Hougen (husband Brian), nieces; Kendall Hall (husband Daniel), Allie Aycock, Kate Aycock and Lily Aycock and nephews; James Aycock, Christian Hougen, and Reed Hougen. Matt is also survived by his Uncle Chris Easterling (wife Juliana) and many cousins, family and friends all of whom he loved dearly.
Matt was a free spirit from birth bringing joy and challenges to his family and friends as he passed through the phases of his life. He had a spirit of adventure and exploration and was always dreaming and searching for new things to bring into his life. He had several phases in his career, but his time as a sports photojournalist was second only to his love for creating works of art with his woodworking skills. He was an avid sports fan, especially for his Baylor Bears and he would enthusiastically tell stories of his involvement with the Baylor sports programs, first as a student at Baylor then as a journalist for a Waco television station.
Matt had a special gift with children and his outgoing personality made him the favorite Uncle to not only his nieces and nephews, but also to so many of his friend's children. Matt devoted much of his time to entertaining his nieces and nephews during their summers at Camp Grammy and ensuring their special visits were spectacular. There wasn't a child that Matt couldn't make truly laugh out loud. Matt had a big heart and was at his best when he had the opportunity to help others. In his last few years in San Antonio he found a home at 10BitWorks with wonderful friends who shared Matt's passion for woodworking. They were a true blessing for what turned out to be the last phase of Matt's life.
We will celebrate Matt's life on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 2:30pm at Alamo Heights Methodist Church in San Antonio, Tx. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the YMCA of Greater San Antonio or to the woodworking scholarships at 10BitWorks @ https://10bitworks.com/donate.
The family would like to thank everyone who loved and supported Matt throughout his life. Each and everyone one of you purposely invested into Matt's life and he was blessed by you all. Sic ‘em Bears!
