Mattie Byrd Wilson died on June 9, 2022, in San Antonio, Texas. Mattie Byrd Bunting was born June 17, 1928, in New York City. She grew up in Huntsville and San Marcos, Texas. She received a BA from the University of Texas and an MA from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). She taught school for over 25 years in Corpus Christi and San Antonio.
Mattie Byrd was predeceased by her first husband, Rev. Ted Spellman; their son, David; her second husband, Larry Wilson and his sons, Jay and Guy. She is survived by her son, Paul and wife Sue; her daughter, Carol Olson and husband Eric; grandchildren, Margaret Taylor and husband Noel, Madeleine Pittman and husband Joel, Kevin Olson and Carl Olson. She is also survived by Larry Wilsons sons, Cleve and wife Gail, and Steve and wife Aimee; and his daughter, Judy Galuppo; and their children and grandchildren.
