Maureen was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 3, 1938 to Robert and Marguerite McCabe. She attended Our Lady of Mercy Academy in Syosset and Fordham University in the Bronx. Maureen married Russell Clifford Brown of Mystic, Connecticut on August 5, 1963.
Maureen loved to travel. She and her husband called many places around the world home including Bucharest, Romania and Cairo, Egypt where she was president of the Women's Association of Cairo. Maureen was known for her gracious manner and warm hospitality. She loved to cook and open her home to friends and loved ones, especially around the holidays for people unable to be with their own families.
She raised four children, but was like a mother to so many others from San Diego to Washington, DC. She was a voracious reader, loved the American political process and was never one to shy away from a lively debate.
She was devout in her faith and supported numerous Catholic charities and causes throughout her life. Known simply as "Mo" to all who knew her, she will forever be remembered for her generosity of spirit.
Maureen is survived by her husband Russell, sister Patricia, daughter Mary Ellen, sons Robert, Andrew and Matthew and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Patrick Church, 355 East Main Street, Mystic, Connecticut on December 5, 2015 at 11:00 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Edmunds Retreat, P.O. Box 399, Mystic, Connecticut 06355.
