Maxine Cohen passed away on March 31, 2024, a day after her 95th birthday. A long-time resident of San Antonio, she made her mark as a community activist and leader in the city’s Jewish community. Maxine was co-founder of the San Antonio Holocaust Memorial and for years taught Holocaust courses to students from area schools. She served as director of the San Antonio Jewish Community Relations Council and held an interim position as director of the Jewish Federation. Maxine was a classically trained pianist who gave lessons to many in San Antonio and was a published author of short fiction. She received several awards and citations for her civic work and her work in the Jewish community.
Maxine’s husband, Don, died in 1987. She is survived by their four children, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
